August 26th is Women’s Equality Day! It’s the day we celebrate the certification of the 19th amendment and the incredible advancements that women have made since then and throughout all of time. We are proud to say that MOD is women owned and operated and, at this time, a 100% female team. That gives us a lot to celebrate today! There are plenty of ways, but here’s where we’re getting started!
1. Donate to causes who support women
Donate to local shelters or organizations that support women around the world who don’t yet have equality. To name a few:
If you’re considering a donation to a local shelter, try to gather supplies like sanitary items, underwear, diapers, food supplies, socks, clothes, etc to drop off. Or volunteer your time to help.
2. Support a woman in your life
Get it straight from the source: ask the women in your workplace how you can make their office experience safer, happier, and overall more inclusive.
Support a local, women owned business (like MOD!). Find stores that are women-owned by looking for the women-owned business badge on Yelp.
“We are struggling for a uniting word, but the good news is that we have a uniting movement.” -Emma Watson
3. Register to vote
There is no better way to make your voice heard or celebrate the suffragettes’ hard work than to exercise your right to vote! Find out how and where to register here.
4. Read up
Read books by feminist authors like Roxanne Gay, Gloria Steinem, Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, and more. Knowledge is power, and a great place to start if you’re looking to learn more about the past, present, and future of the women’s equality movement.
5. Spread the word!
You’d be surprised to know that Women’s Equality Day is not a national holiday and that most people don’t know it exists. Share some information on social media and let people know why today should be a national day of celebration.
While we are so proud of the advancements women have made throughout history, we still have a long way to go, and we can only do it by working together and looking forward. Let’s start by lifting one another up and celebrating the accomplishments we’ve made along the way! From the amazing ladies at MOD to the wonderful women in your life, Happy Women’s Equality Day!
